The 31st Annual Summer Carillon Recital Series opens July 4 with an Independence Day program and continues on Sunday afternoons through July 27. Bring a blanket, folding chairs, a basket of treats, your friends, and enjoy the music of the bells.
Rain or shine, all recitals begin at 4 p.m. and will feature outstanding players.
The House of Hope 2025 Summer Carillon Series is supported by a grant in memory of Sanford “Sandy” Moss, made at the recommendation of Harold and Grace Kurtz, executors of the Moss estate. Anonymous memorial gifts were received to honor and remember Walter and Ginger Bailey, Frances “Dee” Gladish, Jean Carlton Whitaker Ambler, and Arnulf Svendsen .

Friday, July 4 | Tim Short House of Hope Presbyterian Church Music Associate and Carillonneur Tim Short joined the House of Hope staff as Music Associate in 2018. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mount Union University, and a Master of Music degree in organ performance from Drake University where he was a Graduate Fellow. A longtime musician and educator, he assists with the Choir School program and directs three handbell ensembles. With an interest in the use of handbells for the enrichment of worship, he is a coach in the art of handbell ringing which began at the House of Hope in 1979. In November 2023 he was named the eighth carillonneur to the congregation continuing the century-long legacy of carillon music from the 49 tower bells for this faith community and its neighborhood. He also coordinates the annual July Summer Carillon Recital Series which bring national and international players to the Twin Cities for a series of public events at both the House of Hope and Central Lutheran Church (Minneapolis). |

Sunday, July 6 | Carson Landry University of Rochester Carson Landry is lecturer of music and University Carillonist at the University of Rochester (NY). In this role, he plays multiple recitals per week and teaches an active studio of about 15 students. Passionate about using bells for social good, he specializes in performing works by diverse artists and integrating carillon performance into daily campus life. Previously, Carson was carillonist of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church in Michigan and held fellowships at Bok Tower Gardens (FL) and the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon (IL). He holds a master’s degree in carillon performance from the University of Michigan (where he studied with Drs. Tiffany Ng and Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra), a diploma from the Royal Carillon School in Belgium (where he studied on a Fulbright scholarship), and a BA in music studies from Principia College. He serves the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America as corresponding secretary and as chair of the professionalism, diversity, equity, and inclusion committee. |

Sunday, July 13 | Annie Gao Freelance Carillonneur from Los Angeles Annie Gao is a carillonist and software engineer from the sunny suburbs of Southern California. She first met the carillon in 2017 as a member of the Yale University Guild of Carillonneurs, completed her GCNA Carillonneur exam in 2020, and graduated from Yale in 2021 with a combined B.S./M.S. in Computer Science. She then had the tremendous privilege of continuing her carillon studies internationally with Geert D’hollander, Boudewijn Zwart, and Eddy Marien, and along the way, was selected for the quinquennial Kors Monster Festival Performance Nomination (2024), as well as The Diapason’s “20 Under 30” list (2025). She has taught carillon performance masterclasses all over the United States, and currently serves the GCNA as chair of the Emerging Artists Grant committee and jury member of the Carillonneur Exam. In her free time, Annie enjoys competitive ping pong, puzzles and brainteasers, good reads, and opportunities to explore and improve her fascinatingly bad sense of direction. |

Sunday, July 20 | Lisa Lonie Princeton University Lisa Lonie is the University Carillonneur of Princeton University, a position she has held since 2012. She is also the carillonneur at St. Thomas’ Church, Whitemarsh (PA) and at The Church of the Holy Trinity (Philadelphia) which houses the oldest carillon (1882) in North America. She’s also a carillon instructor for the North American Carillon School and a carillonneur member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA). Known for her musical wit and creative programming, Ms. Lonie has performed in internationally acclaimed carillon festivals including multiple appearances at the Bok Tower (FL) and Springfield (IL) festivals, as well as for several national congresses of the GCNA. Privately, she commissions new works for carillon which have added to the rich portfolio of carillon compositions in North America. Lisa is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with dual degrees in German and Economics. Besides her musical interests, she is a mom of three, grandma of five and resides outside Philadelphia with husband Paul and assorted wildlife. While not climbing bell towers, she is the Assistant Chief of Staff of Haverford College. |

Sunday, July 27 | Geert D’hollander Bok Tower and Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida Belgian-American composer and carillonneur Geert D’hollander has studied piano, chamber music, choral and orchestral conducting, fugue and composition at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium, and graduated from the Royal Carillon School, with honors. He composed more than 80 compositions, mostly commissions for carillon and was first prizewinner in more than 30 international competitions. In 1997, D’hollander was appointed as University Carillonist and Professor of Carillon at the Department of Music at UC Berkeley. In 2008, he was awarded the Berkeley Medal for “Distinguished Service to the Carillon”. Before he moved to Florida, Geert was teaching carillon and carillon composition at the Royal Carillon School “Jef Denyn” in Mechelen, Belgium, and was city carillonneur of the historical instruments of Antwerp Cathedral (1655), the belfry of Ghent (1660), and the Basilica of Lier (1704). In 2012 Geert D’hollander was named Bok Tower Gardens’ (Florida) fourth full-time carillonneur, one of the most unique and prestigious positions in the world. He frequently gives master classes in Europe and the U.S., and performs all over the world. |
