Contemporary Quilts of Mary Mathews
House of Hope Cloister Gallery
September 11 – October 9
Born and raised on Minnesota’s Iron Range, Mary Mathews received a degree in Textiles and Clothing Merchandising from Iowa State University. Years as an educator and fabric store owner ignited her commitment to supporting and empowering artists and entrepreneurs as Co-Founder and CEO of the Entrepreneur Fund.
In 2000, she made her first quilt—a log cabin crazy quilt—and she was hooked. From initially relying on quilt patterns to trusting improvisation and her own creative sense, she has come full circle—her love of sewing, color, texture, and design resulting in her “second career” as an artist. Her work has been shown in numerous regional art shows, and she received the 2021 Northern Lights Juried International Art Exhibition, Award of Excellence.
