The Garth, or the inner courtyard, is a lovely and quiet garden setting for reflection and prayer. The fountain, designed by Harlan Boss and executed by the St. Paul Statuary Company, is the centerpiece of the Garth. The Celtic cross at the top of the fountain reminds the congregation of its Scottish origins. Water flows through four fish, which represent the four evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In 1986, the decision was made to include a columbarium in the Garth. Since ancient times, Christians have buried their families in the churchyard, symbolizing the continuum of faith from birth to death, baptism to burial. In keeping with this tradition, House of Hope established the columbarium for the interment of the cremated remains of House of Hope members and their families.
