House of Hope Presbyterian Church joins with

University of Minnesota to host lecture series

St. Paul, MN . . . September 26, 2003 . . . The House of Hope Presbyterian Church begins its Music at Four concert series on Sunday, October 5, 2003, with the Soyulla Ensemble and Friends in performance.

Husband and wife Kyu-Young Kim and Pitnarry Shin, recent recipients of the McKnight Fellowship as the Soyulla Duo, have been joined by long-time friend and colleague, pianist Wei-Yi Yang, to form the Soyulla Ensemble. The Soyulla Ensemble is dedicated to performing diverse programs of chamber music with both local and national guest artists.

Violinist Kyu-Young Kim joined the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra as Associate Concertmaster in 2000, and has appeared as soloist with the orchestra on numerous occasions since then. Mr. Kim is a founding member of the Daedalus Quartet, which won the grand prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition.

Cellist Pitnarry Shin has performed throughout the United States, Europe and her native Korea as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. Ms. Shin has been a member of the Minnesota Orchestra since 2001. Her debut recital was at Weill Hall, Carnegie Hall in 1997. She has also played with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

A pianist from Taiwan, Wei-Yi Yang is Professor of Piano and Chair of the Keyboard Department at the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University. Winner of the Gold Medal in the Fifth San Antonio International Piano Competition, Mr. Yang's performances have been featured on both radio and television.

Joining the Soyulla Ensemble for this concert will be Steven Copes, violin, Kerri Ryan, viola, and Michael Friedmann, piano and narrator. The program will include the Beethoven Funeral March from the Eroica Symphony for Four hands, Schoenberg's Ode to Napoleon Buonaparte for Narrator, Piano and Strings, and Schumann's Quintet for Piano and Strings in E flat Major.

The concert will be in the main sanctuary and will begin at 4:00 p.m. As with all Music at Four events, the concert is free and open to the public. The House of Hope Presbyterian Church is located at 797 Summit Avenue, on the corner of Summit Avenue and Avon Street in St. Paul. Parking is available in the lot directly north of the church on Portland Avenue, or in the lot on the south side of Summit Avenue across from the church. The sanctuary is accessible through both the Summit Avenue and Portland Avenue entrances to the church.
