Press ReleaseThe House of Hope Presbyterian Church HOW SHALL WE DO THEOLOGY TODAY? St. Paul, MN . . . February 12, 2003 . . . The annual Didier Seminar at The House of Hope Presbyterian Church will explore the pertinent and challenging question of “How Shall We Do Theology Today?” The keynote speaker is Professor Gordon D. Kaufman, recently retired from Harvard, whose work has focussed on Christianity’s response to today’s historical circumstances of cultural relativism, religious pluralism, scientific knowledge and historical understanding. The Didier Seminar begins on Friday, March 7, 2003, at 7:30 p.m., with a keynote address by Professor Kaufman, entitled “How Shall We Do Theology Today?” The seminar continues on Saturday morning, March 8, with a second keynote address entitled, “Today’s Evolutionary Ecological World and the Theological Structure of Christian Faith.” At 10:30 Saturday morning, area scholars will respond to Professor Kaufman’s ideas, followed by an open discussion. Participants include Allen Callahan, Paula Cooey, James Laine, and Lucy Forster-Smith from Macalester College, and Paul Capetz from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. On Sunday, March 9, the series concludes with a presentation during the education hour from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., “Thinking in a New Way About Christian Symbols: Recap and Open Discussion,” with Gordon Kaufman and Paula Cooey. The Didier Seminar is open to the public. There is no cost to attend and no reservations are necessary. The Friday evening and Saturday sessions will take place in the Great Hall. The Sunday morning adult education forum will be in the Assembly Room. The House of Hope Presbyterian Church is located at 797 Summit Avenue at Avon Street. The sanctuary is accessible through the doors on Summit Avenue and Portland Avenue. Handicapped accessibility is available through the west Portland Avenue door.
